The Christian Wu Kung Association
About Us
The Christian Wu Kung Association exists to glorify God through the teaching and demonstration of kung fu. This is accomplished by providing affordable, high quality classes, evangelistic demonstrations, camps and seminars. We present a whole-life approach to kung fu designed to train the body, soul and spirit through hard work, discipline and an openness to the Holy Spirit's leading. We are dedicated to technical excellence, traditional Christian values, combat effectiveness, spiritual growth and evangelism.
History of the CWKA
The CWKA was founded in 1992, by Sifu Mike Sutherland while serving as a missionary in the village of Sol, Slovakia. The association was originally intended as an outreach to youth in the surrounding areas. Since that time, he has continued to refine both the mission of the CWKA and its curriculum until finally incorporating as a nonprofit religious organization.
Our Director
Sifu Mike Sutherland has more than 24 years experience in the martial arts, primarily in the art of Choy Li Fut kung fu. He accepted Christ in 1978. In addition to his martial arts evangelism work, he has training in youth ministry and spent two years as a missionary in Slovakia. Though he has had many instructors throughout the years, he considers his chi gung teacher, Dr. Fred Pangburn to be the most influential. Dr. Pangburn is pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Bridgeton, NJ, where he continues to teach a select group of students the arts of Tai Chi, Bagua and Chi Gung.
